A Wedding Planner’s Guide to Opal Sol & Opal Sands | Clearwater Beach Wedding Venues
We made the move to Tampa Bay just three months ago and immediately hit the ground running exploring some of the area’s most beautiful wedding venues. As a full-service Tampa wedding planner, one of my favorite ways to get to know a venue is by walking the property, meeting the events team, and dreaming up all the ways we could bring a couple’s wedding vision to life.
One of the very first venues on my list was Opal Sol Resort and Opal Sands Resort in Clearwater Beach and they absolutely lived up to the hype.
If you’re dreaming of a luxury waterfront wedding with panoramic Gulf views, these sister resorts offer everything you need for an unforgettable wedding weekend. Even better? You can enjoy those breathtaking water views without feeling like you have to host a “toes-in-the-sand” beach wedding. For couples who love the coastal atmosphere but envision a more elevated, resort-style celebration, this is the best of both worlds.
So, let’s take a tour together and see whether Opal Sol or Opal Sands could be the perfect venue for your Clearwater Beach wedding.
The Difference Between Opal Sol + Opal Sands Resorts
Although they’re sister properties, each resort offers a slightly different wedding experience.
Opal Sands Resort opened in February 2016 and has become one of Clearwater Beach’s most established luxury wedding venues. It’s best known for its stunning Gulf-front ceremony locations, contemporary ballrooms, and the ability to host an entire wedding weekend all in one place.
Just across the street, Opal Sol Resort welcomed its first guests earlier this year in February 2025. As the newest luxury resort on Clearwater Beach, it’s already making a name for itself by hosting elegant weddings and large celebrations. It’s quickly becoming a fantastic option for couples planning grand receptions or multi-day wedding weekends.
One detail I especially loved learning during our tour is that each property hosts just one wedding per day. That means your celebration is never competing for attention, allowing both you and your guests to enjoy a much more personalized experience from start to finish.
Outdoor Ceremonies with Gulf Coast Views
One of my favorite parts of the tour was seeing the Fountain Lawn + Event Lawn overlooking Clearwater Beach. If you’re envisioning swaying palms and ocean breezes, this space creates exactly that experience.
The Event Lawn accommodates up to 250 guests, while the Fountain Terrace provides a more intimate setting for up to 120 guests. Walking out onto the Event Lawn, my planner brain instantly went into design mode. I imagined guests mingling between beautifully styled lounge areas, savoring interactive food stations that tell the couple’s story, enjoying roaming entertainment, and watching the sun dip over the Gulf as hundreds of twinkling string lights began to glow. It’s the kind of setting that transforms a wedding into an unforgettable guest experience.
*One important planning note: outdoor ceremonies are available May through February. During March, April, and holiday weekends, ceremonies move indoors to the elegant Opal Foyer. Honestly, this indoor space is also such a gem. It’s definitely a must see when you tour Opal Sol + Sands!
Elevated Reception Spaces
Stepping inside the indoor event spaces at Opal Sands, we were welcomed by several unique reception spaces, each offering something a little different depending on your guest count and wedding vision.
For intimate celebrations, the Sand Salon and Sea Salon are both incredible options overlooking the Gulf. The Sand Salon comfortably seats 40–50 guests, while the Sea Salon accommodates up to 120 guests for a seated reception. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the rooms with natural light and showcase panoramic views of Clearwater Beach, creating a beautiful backdrop from the first toast to the final dance.
As I stood in these spaces, I couldn’t help but imagine guests enjoying a beautifully curated four-course dinner while the sun slowly set over the Gulf. It’s elegant, intimate, and one of those views that never gets old.
Then came the space I was most excited to see, the Opal Ballroom!
The ballroom can be divided into two separate spaces, each accommodating up to 200 guests, or combined into one grand ballroom for celebrations of up to 450 guests.
If I Were Designing a Wedding Here…
As a planner and designer, my mind immediately started dreaming up possibilities. Every venue tells a different story, it just takes the right design team to bring it to life. I could picture soft draping to add warmth and dimension, a live band filling the room with energy, and suspended floral installations drawing every eye to a statement dance floor.
For couples envisioning a coastal chic celebration, I’d lean into layered shades of blue, natural textures, and thoughtful details inspired by the Gulf. Imagine sea glass escort cards for guests to take home, an oyster shell seating chart, and candlelight reflecting throughout the ballroom. Or, if you’re craving something a little more vibrant, an abundance of white blooms mixed with varying shades of pink would create a fresh, modern design that feels both timeless and full of personality.
